While you dictate, two things listen to your microphone.
① Your browser's speech service (Google, in Chrome) receives the audio to turn it into words. This is the only moment anything leaves your device.
② The page listens a second time, only to measure your silences and decide where punctuation goes. That sound is neither recorded nor sent: only two numbers are kept per image (loudness and pitch). On a phone this second listening is turned off.
The checking itself runs 100 % on your device. The 🩺 Diagnostic button copies those measurements to your clipboard if you click it, never on its own.

🗣️ You can say the punctuation: “comma”, “full stop”, “question mark”… — the list
Say comma · full stop or period · question mark · exclamation mark · colon · semicolon · new line · new paragraph.
“Period” only counts at the end of what you say, and it stays a word when it clearly is one: a period of time, the same period. “Full stop” works anywhere.
Without spoken punctuation, OMEGA uses your pauses: a short pause can become a comma, a long one a full stop. When in doubt it writes nothing — add it by voice or by hand.
